The NFWOA Tournament was treated to a special occasion during the finals when Holley senior Quinton Murphy won over Lewiston Porter’s Dan Reagan by a technical fall (18-2). It marked his 276th career win, breaking the record of Cody Ruggirello of Section 9. On the way to the finals he had technical falls over 3 opponents, 20-5, 15-0,18-2 and then 18-2 in the finals. Along the way, he pinned 2 other opponents, in 1:35 and in :27. What a tournament this young man had! At the tournament the consensus among the officials was that he had broken the record held by a Section 6 wrestler, Kenny Betts of Fredonia, but apparently that was not the case. Betts had held the record prior to Ruggirello. Quinton still has half the season to go, including the end of year tournaments, and may set the bar high enough that it will be a real challenge for future wrestlers.
