The 2014 Jerry Wright Memorial Coaches Award and Contributor of the Year Award
Awarded to Bill Ossont
Each year the Niagara Frontier Wrestling Officials recognize an outstanding wrestling coach. We (they) also recognize an individual for their outstanding contributions to the sport of wrestling. We (they) have always given these awards to two individuals at the state qualifiers. This year we would like to recognize one special person for both awards and since they have dedicated so much time to the N-O league we would like to present it here instead of the qualifiers.
This year’s awards will go to Bill Ossont.
Bill started coaching here at Medina in 1966 at the JV Level. He then was the Varsity Coach in 1972 through 1976. His teams were N-O Champions for all the years he coached them and he only lost 1 other meet during that time. He also produced many outstanding wrestlers and state qualifiers.
After his successful coaching career Bill became a wrestling official. Bill officiated for some 36 years.
He has worked countless state qualifiers and several NYS tournaments.
While he officiated he was known for his pranks with other officials. This is a family environment, so we won’t even go there.
A couple years ago he finally moved out of Medina. He now lives in Gasport with his wife Pat. They have two successful sons, Bill and John and three wonderful grandchildren.
